Publishings In The Telegraph; A Thread

I have decided to create a new section on the blog, a more personal area, if you will. I have recognised I should be proud of my achievements, not hide them away. And so below is the first piece I was fortunate enough to have published in The Telegraph at around the beginning of lockdown!

PUBLISHING 1. What Could Have Been

It’s 2020, the year social media was supposed to be taken over by Tik Tocks and pledges from the government regarding Brexit. The year tourists would flock to Japan to celebrate the 29th Olympic Games, celebrating the talents of the athletes, as well as the coming together of nations in one country for the same purpose. 2020 was the year for many college leavers to finally test the waters of the world, to finally make huge decisions for themselves on where the wonderful path of life would take them next; University? A job maybe fulfilling enough for some. Or how about a year travelling? Yes, that sounds perfect. Many fruitful 18-year olds would have been jetting off on their first ‘lads’ (or girls) holiday this year, eagerly craving freedom from their parents, perhaps wondering what the adventure had in store for them…

This was the year many citizens would be able to make changes to their lives, to their families and to their jobs. To their hobbies, to their health and most importantly to the memories they would hold for the rest of their lives. 5G was to be introduced to our handheld devices, and the US citizens would be called to the ballot box to vote for their president. Everyone had a plan for their life this year, and even if they didn’t, it would have been easy enough to predict what could have happened should their situation stay the same. But see, that is the issue at hand, everything has not stayed the same, and in theory, will never be the same again. Who knew something so minute could have such a huge impact to the modern-day society? An invisible enemy, the worst of them all. No weapons to defend, nor a permanent solution to put the minds of many to rest. Everyone is on edge, for the ‘Coronavirus’ has engulfed the beginning of 2020 like the cells it infects. This is the sort of stuff you see in films, read about in stories, or make up in your mind.

Please feel free to let me know what you think… kind comments only please!

Love El xx
